Michelle C. Hughes is an enthusiastic educator who is passionate about teaching and learning alongside students and colleagues. Through her 34-years in education, Michelle taught junior high school English, worked as a high school administrator, and served as a faculty member in Westmont College’s Education Department in Santa Barbara, California. While at Westmont College, she taught and supervised student teachers, served several terms as department chair, and oversaw the credential program. Michelle is currently writing, speaking, and consulting. She was honored with Westmont College’s Bruce and Adaline Bare Teacher of the Year Award for the Social Sciences in 2013. Michelle’s research thoughtfully examines professional teaching dispositions or the postures, attitudes, and heart skills needed for professional flourishing. Michelle is the co-editor of the book, Joyful Resilience as Educational Practice: Turning Challenges into Opportunities (Routledge, 2022). Her new book, Dispositions Are a Teacher’s Greatest Strength: Mindful Pedagogical Practices to Develop Self-Awareness to Flourish in the Classroom, is due out in June 2024 (Taylor and Francis).
